For my Fashion Merchandising final, we designed a clothing line, floor plan, etc. We also had to make an actual garment so I decided to revamp a basic tank top by adding a lace and floral peter pan collar.
Materials:
- Plain tank top
- Lace fabric
- Daisy trim (I got mine from Joann)
- Scissors
- Wax paper or tracing paper
- Needle & thread (you could use a machine, but I chose to hand sew)
Start with a basic top
This is from American Eagle btw

Closeup of lace & daisy trim |
Fold your top in half and use wax paper or tracing paper to trace out the shape as an outline. Fold the wax paper in half and line that up with the edge of the shirt so that both sides are equal
Then draw a curved line
Adjust your template as needed
I didn't want to overload this post with pictures of me cutting it.
Just trim the lines so that the lines are curved and that the shape replicates a peter pan collar
Fold your lace in half and line up the folded edge of the template to the folded line in the lace.
Pin and cut
Line up the collar with the neckline.
Pin in place and sew
I found a daisy trim at my craft store and used that to outline the lace.
Sewing the trim is very time consuming. I sewed down each petal to ensure that it will hold on
And you're done!
Aside from my uneven collar and horrible stitching, I would say that it turned out super cute.
I took these pictures late at night and decided to document it last minute. If any of the instructions or pictures confuse you, feel free to leave questions in the comment section! It's hard to document DIY crafts lol
